Woohoo! DL Havlin’s entry in the Royal Palm Literary Awards Competition, Blue Water, Red Blood, is a finalist for the RPLA competition. Results will be announced at the RPLA Banquet on Saturday evening, October 22, 2011.

June 27, 2011 – The Geezer’s Gazings

Since Sandy, my Golden Retriever, started her blog a couple of years ago, many of her followers have asked why her human didn’t have a blog. Good question! I can’t answer it. The truth is, I didn’t realize how much fun and inciteful blogging can be. Sooooooooo, I’m launching this site in the hopes of getting to know many of you folks out there in the blogosphere. Unlike my long-winded pup, I’ll try to keep my posts short, but meaningful.

Sandy refers to me as the “Geezer” and is frank when documenting some of my less than stellar traits. I’ll be less free when I discuss her little failings and won’t discuss her many favorable points; she’s perfectly willing to extol her virtues at her site. – www.sandysays1.wordpress.com.

I’m an author so you’ll find I’ll split the blog’s subjects between personal experiences and both the art and business of writing. I’m looking forward to sharing ideas and conversations with you all!

July 5, 2011 – Independence Day

It was a very busy July 4th for us. At 9:30 AM we loaded into the car with our chairs, sunscreen and bug stray and dressed in our red, white and blue. Bokeelia held it’s annual Independence Day parade starting at 10 AM. We bearly found a spot for our chairs, while the sirens blared from the island’s four fire engine. We visited with friends with candy raining down around us. Most of the businesses on the island had floats or some prescence, everything from walkers with banners, decorated golf carts, convertables with beauty queens (and the not so beautiful), boats pulled by all kinds of vehicles, flat bed trailers. Horses little to HUGE. Well, you know small town parades. Lots of kids (yeh), scouts, etc. Lunch was at one of the local restaurants, where I promptly spilled on Mrs G. We planned to take the boat out for a spin after lunch but afternoon rains kept us in, so we opted for a movie, “Independence Day”. After hot dogs on the grill with the trimmings, we headed to the other end of the island for fireworks.

A BIG – Thank You – to our armed forces for making it possible for me and my family to have a great “4th of July – Independence Day” celebration!
